My hometown circa 1979.
Trump supporters- what do you think of him saying democrats were treasonous and don’t like America because they didn’t clap for him at the state of the union?
What’s the defense there?
Because from where I’m standing, it seems like he’s flirting with the idea of totalitarianism. I’m not saying that he is a totalitarian dictator, before you go on the defense there, I’m simply saying that whether he’s aware of it or not, he seems to be making suggestions that would fit that kind of M.O.

“Flirting” with the idea? He’s in full on dragon pose with the idea.

Trump’s an idiot with power and an ego the size of Texas. All he cares about is that his ego gets stroked, so if he has to call people traitors to feel better about himself so be it. I usually vote Republican, but I can’t stand Trump. I don’t doubt that he would create a totalitarian state in a heartbeat if he could (because he can’t think of consequences to his actions), then he would only hear praise about him on the news.

Perhaps the true source of his bad relations with North Korea? Kim Jong Un gets more praise then he does? Heh.

I’m curious about current Trump supporters as well. Sensible adults can disagree about many subjects and picking what you interpret as the lesser evil is understandable too. But actually supporting Trump in 2018 is something I cannot wrap my head around.

personally I agree, but his supporters seem to be quite sensitive and I wanted to ask my question without the comments devolving into BUTTEREMAILS

But also it’s not because the stakes are way higher and we shouldn’t just brush this behavior off like it ain’t no thang

Because from where I’m standing
I see what you did there.

If he’d shut up and let the economy do it’s thing he would be a fairly popular president. It’s not hard to be liked when the economy is doing well but trump finds a way.

I think Trump supporters are going to love it. Many of them are in the “America—Love it or leave it” crowd. “You don’t support the president, you don’t deserve to live here.” Of course, they sang a very different tune when Obama was president. It’s called hypocrisy.
Trump is a blow hard. He knows how to work a room. He says things like this to get attention, like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum, and it works. Every time. And it’s destructive. It emboldens bullies, because he is the Bully in Chief. This talk will never really go anywhere, but it gives his supporters permission to call Democrats traitors. And that is perhaps the most dangerous thing of all. Because we can all love our country in our own way. We don’t have to conform to a certain set of beliefs to be an American. We don’t have to agree with everything out president says, and we can show our disagreement however we see fit. The president is supposed to be a cheerleader for inclusion. But that play isn’t in Trump’s book, unless he can benefit from it.

That is where American politics takes a dip. No one seems to care about this being high stakes. It is Us Vs Them and screw everyone else. Places like Yemen are dying because of bad water and Cape Town is ruined despite being one of the larger cities in Africa. Kick the can till it is someone else’s fault.

More idiocy from the worst leader in the “free” (mildly sarcastic quotes) world and the leader of the worst regime in American history. If it’s a day ending in “y”, he’ll be saying something stupid, and his base will continue to eat it up, even those who claim to hate him but defend everything done by his corrupt cronies.
Soon to be distracted by Nunes lies, Butterymales, Ghazi!!!1!, Clintons, pizza parlors, economic anxiety, etc.

I’m with you. I’m sad to admit that I think slightly less of someone that still defends him. It just doesn’t make sense, he is indefensible. I’m sad because I try not to think less of anyone for their politics, but politics aside he is just a horrible human being. Nobody should be supporting the kinds of things he stands for, the kinds of things he’s said and the immense profits he is making off of the presidency.

When the socio-economic gap improves, and economic mobility improves, one can say the economy is actually doing well. There’s been a lot of smoke and mirrors in the economy for the past 15 or so years, and we have Randian morons saying a $1.50/week increase is something great. Now we’re diving head-first into trickle down nonsense again, an ideal that has failed in every prior version, and will fail again.

Why Trump flippantly accusing Democrats of ‘treason’ is not a laughing matter (WaPo)
![]() 02/06/2018 at 10:58 |
|
Obama used the word “treason” only twice during his eight years in office. Not coincidentally, he was discussing the rise of Trump both times. As the Republican primaries raged on in March 2016 and the establishment tried to block Trump from securing the nomination, Obama said during a fundraiser in Austin that their party wouldn’t be in that position if elected Republicans had not looked the other way for years while Trump falsely accused him of being from Kenya.
“As long as it was directed at me, they were fine with it. … Now, suddenly, we’re shocked that there’s gambling going on in this establishment,” Obama said. “What’s happening in this primary is just a distillation of what’s been happening inside their party for more than a decade. The reason that many of their voters are responding is because this is what’s been fed through the messages they’ve been sending for a long time: that you just make flat assertions that don’t comport with the facts; … that compromise is a betrayal; that the other side isn’t simply wrong … but the other side is destroying the country or treasonous.
“So they can’t be surprised when somebody suddenly looks and says, ‘You know what, I can do that even better! I can make stuff up better than that! I can be more outrageous than that! I can insult people even better than that! I can be even more uncivil,’” Obama continued. “If you don’t care about the facts or the evidence or civility in making your arguments, you will end up with candidates who will say just about anything and do just about anything.”
The next day in Dallas , Obama lamented Trump’s proposed Muslim ban and his harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric. “We can have political debates without thinking that the people who disagree with us are all motivated by malice,” the then-president said. “We can support candidates without treating their opponents as unpatriotic or treasonous or somehow deliberately trying to weaken America.” ( WaPo )

Oh its really easy. First you have the selfsh Ayn Rand supporters, (paul Ryan0 who want all gov programs shut down, then you have Pruitt, Perry zinke, drill baby drill, then you have the elve “law and order” dogwhistle, huckabee evangelical wing, and Cohn, Donovan, Mnuchin from the wallstreet branch. each wants something that, and they’ll each swallow,.. the alternative facts to get it.
